Varian Medical Systems Inc. is an international radiation oncology treatment and software developer. They specialize in creating medical devices and a broad range of solutions for the treatment of cancer and other medical conditions.

Based in Palo Alto, California, Varian operates in North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa, bringing treatments and cutting-edge products to those in need around the world and empowering healthcare providers to make a difference in the communities they serve. Varian Medical Systems’ Challenge

Varian was experiencing difficulty with their candidate quality and the speed of their recruitment process. They worked with multiple third-party recruitment agencies but still found that they had difficulty securing the right talent for their niche roles. This problem wasn’t just contained to their US office but was widespread across many of their global locations.

They appointed a new Head of Talent to review and improve their current talent acquisition processes and agency relationships. The new Head of Talent was focused on reducing their agency spending and improving the outcomes of their recruiting efforts, securing leading talent, and creating a streamlined, global recruitment process that would sustainably source, attract and retain the right quality and quantity of talent they needed.

Building a Successful Talent Solution

Pierpoint was chosen to support the new Head of Talent in reviewing their recruitment processes and creating a scalable, high-touch strategy that would secure the niche talent they needed in their global offices. This required an on-site team embedded into their California-based headquarters. This on-site team assessed their current processes and devised an approach that would allow them to improve Varian’s candidate quality, time-to-hire, and reduce their recruitment costs for multiple job categories in niche specialisms.

Once the strategy was in place at HQ, Pierpoint deployed remote teams to support Varian’s other global locations to ensure a unified, branded approach was taken for all recruitment efforts. They facilitated all recruitment programs in the local language and improved the candidate experience, increasing the acceptance rate.

Through the strength of Pierpoint’s initial RPO solution and the global deployment of branded recruitment marketing, Varian was able to bring their recruiting in-house and significantly reduce their agency spending.
