52 years later, Pride remains a powerful call for equality, and it is important to remember that it is about more than a parade. To this day, the fight for transgender and queer rights continues.
The Stonewall Uprising, which took place on June 28, 1969 in New York City, is considered the tipping point for LGBTQIA+ rights. This is why around the world, June is recognized as Pride Month to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex and Asexual) community and their accomplishments to this date.
While a lot of progress has been made, there is still work to be done. Over the last years we have seen how companies have increased their commitment to diversity; however, it was only this past June of 2020 that the U.S. Supreme Court prohibited sexual orientation or transgender status job discrimination. On the other hand, The Human Rights Campaign Foundation recognizes hundreds of businesses with the “Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality” designation. This for companies that ensure greater equity for LGBTQ employees and their families.
At Pierpoint International, we strive to provide and protect a safe work environment that is respectful and an equal opportunity provider for all people, including all sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions.
